Play some Linux game demos thanks to The Game Festival

Geoff Keighley's award show, The Game Awards, is taking place tonight at 5:30PM PST or 2:30AM tomorrow in Europe. Coinciding with the awards is something pretty cool called The Game Festival. In co-operation with Steam, you're able to download and play demos of several unreleased games, many of which have Linux support.

Starting right now, you can head over to the festival Steam page to see all of the games currently offering demos. All of the games will be playable for the next two days, until December 14th. And out of the thirteen games, five are playable on Linux:
  • Spiritfarer (Thunder Lotus)
  • The Drifter (Powerhoof)
  • CARRION (Phobia/Devolver)
  • System Shock - Remake (Nightdive Studios)
  • SkateBIRD (Glass Bottom Games)
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the System Shock demo doesn't seem to be downloading. Hopefully it will get fixed soon. Other notable titles are Spiritfarer, a self-described cozy management game about dying, and CARRION, a reverse horror game where you take on the role of the monster.

I think this is a pretty cool idea from The Game Awards to get fans more involved in upcoming titles, especially those from indie developers. And it's great that there are a few Linux games in the mix.
