With its old-school PS1 style graphics and unique take on 3D platforming,
Hatch offers a decent challenge and an intriguing atmosphere. It's a 3D first-person platformer where your goal is to climb as high as possible. Any wall that's angled shallower than vertical can be scaled, but steeper walls and overhangs are impassable.
The developer, Rubeki, says it's supposed to mimic the feeling of climbing and I definitely agree. You'll methodically scale obstacles while carefully looking for your next climbable surface to jump to. And the difficulty quickly ramps up the further you progress.
There's more to the game than platforming though as
Hatch has an interesting atmosphere. You can really feel the mood shifting the higher you climb. Along the way, you may also meet some other NPCs in the middle of their ascents.
The whole experience can be completed in about an hour, depending on your skills, but it's well worth the price of admission.
Hatch is available on
Steam and
itch.io.
