The team at Creative Assembly take you to ancient China in the latest entry in the Total War series. And thanks to the work of Feral Interactive, Linux users get to participate in the day one launch of the game! Previously it was announced that the Linux version would come slightly after so this is wonderful surprise! Whether it be because of Proton, or studios like Feral, it's awesome to be part of launch day excitement as a Linux user.
Anybody who has played a Total War game in the past probably knows what to expect from this title. The overworld map acts like a turn-based grand strategy game. However, any engagements are settled using a real time battle system. There's nothing else quite like it available with the depth that the Total War series has.
The other defining feature Total War games is the variety of settings. They range from classic medieval, to Warhammer, and now to ancient China. China has such a long history to explore I'm excited to see Creative Assembly's take on things.
Unfortunately, it was
confirmed by Feral that multiplayer on Linux will be restricted to just other Linux players. Cross-play with other OS's would be a killer feature and is definitely something I'd like to see in the future.
