1. Tyranny
Tyranny was Obsidian's underrated, follow-up to the successful CRPG
Pillars of Eternity. If you thought that
Pillars of Eternity was a bit rough around the edges, then you will appreciate the changes that Obsidian made for
Tyranny. It's a much more focused CRPG with a tight story and good replay value due to branching story choices. Pick it up on Steam this weekend for 50% off.
2. Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition
It truly is the RPG edition of 'What to play weekend' as Beamdog's enhanced edition of
Planescape: Torment is also on a good discount on Steam. With some of the best writing of any CRPG and an engaging story,
Planescape is a must play. The enhanced editions runs great on Linux and the backgrounds look really good in HD. Pick it up on Steam for 50% off.
3. Victor Vran
GOG is wrapping up its Summer Sale Festival so there are a few good deals to be had there as well. Haemimont Games is most well known for sim games like the
Tropico series and
Surviving Mars but they decided to try something different with
Victor Vran and make an action RPG. It's not perfect but there's enough variety in enemies and weapons to keep things interesting throughout the game. Some of the Easter eggs are also pretty funny. It's on sale on GOG right now for 50% off.
4. Toonstruck
Toonstruck is
free on GOG at the moment. It's a classic point-and-click adventure game from the late '90s starring Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) and featuring the vocal talents of Dan Castellaneta (Homer Simpson). Quite a lot of talent for such a strange adventure game. And you've got nothing to lose, except time, by giving the game a try.
